Even my question for already subscribed users. Love this and bookmarking. Take Care Gretchen! Only new subscribers will get the final welcome email. Hi Gretchen, thanks for the fantastic and clear instructions. Would love to see you add a final instruction on how to then get this link onto your website.
Thanks again, Catherine. You need to add a subscription form to your website, or at the very least, a link to the MailChimp subscription page. But the directions will vary greatly depending on platform. So what they said that I would have to create a widget on the MailChimp site. Then, take a screenshot image of the widget. Afterwards, you can add the image to your sidebar in an Image Widget and link it to your MailChimp signup page. So I just need to attach the file so it automatically gets sent to my subscribers inbox.
Because right now I just tested it on my own email address and nothing is happening once I do subscribe. Any advice would be much appreciated! And yes I have wordpress. Gretchen, Thank you so much a lady drove me to this blog and I think it helped me a lot… Love your blog… This will help me in future… But I want to give away a series of emails to my subscribers… Is there a way or should I develop it to a PDF to do this….
This would be a paid feature in most email services like ConvertKit or Mad Mimi. However, MailChimp now offers automations to all accounts.
The other alternative is to give them one hefty PDF with all the info. Gretchen, your instructions were great. Gretchen, I have to say this information came to me at just the right time! In fact, I had an idea for a free download but had no idea about what I needed to do to get that information out to my subscribers. You not only opened my eyes but also gave precise instructions on how to do it — and for FREE!
Thank you so much for your well-written instructions! Thanks for making code cool and comprehensible and sharing words of wisdom. I was researching how to offer downloads to subscribers last week, so this is a very timely post for me.
Question: I want to offer files to new subscribers, but I also want to make the files available to current subscribers. How should I do that? I use WordPress and MailChimp. Thanks, Gretchen! Hello Amy! Thanks for stopping by. Your best bet to be able to share files with new subscribers as well as current subscribers is to either: 1.
Send out an email to all your current subscribers with the file download link. I subscribed to your site so I could go through the process firsthand. I see that the file link is at MailChimp, not my website. Next question: any tips for encouraging my existing subscribers to share the free download offer? They are the easiest people for me to reach, especially since FB hides everything. Skip to content. Share Pin Facebook Twitter.

Does it only work for PDF files? What if I want to give a free SVG file? Hi Gretchen, Thanks for much for this, I have done all your steps for upload the link to my Meditation mp3 file.
Is there anyway to do this? Thanks for taking the time. Thank you so much for the guidance. I am left with two questions though: 1 I already have some subscribers on my list in my case, applications for a book launch, via Form 1 , and I also want them to be able to receive the bonus content after the launch a free audio book, via Form 2.

Gretchen, Is there a way to have a link automatically download the file instead of opening it? I am creating a website which contains two pop up- 1- Simple subscription form- where User can subscribe himself to my newsletter. Hi Gretchen, Was breaking my head how to get it done.
Thanks and regards, Paul. Hi Gretchen, Thanks for the info. Would another services such as Aweber handle this? Thanks for all your help. I believe plugins like Lead Pages and perhaps Optimize Press handle this well. Sorry not to be of more help! To import tags, create a single column in your spreadsheet labeled Tags.
For each contact, add all of the tags that apply to them, separated by commas. If you plan to use groups , you can add subscribers to groups during the import process. In your file, label the group column to match your group category. For each contact, include their group names.
To add a contact to more than one group name, separate each name with a comma and a space. For example, if you have a Newsletter Preferences group category and the group names are Student Events , News , and Donations , format the Newsletter Preferences cell for someone in all three groups like this. If you need help, try our sample import file as a starting point. The sample file contains columns for an import that includes email address, first name, last name, address, birthday, a custom group, and tags.
Download the sample CSV file, and replace the sample data with your subscriber data. Customize the fields to match the data you have for your audience. Follow the format guidelines for different types of information, to update your Mailchimp audience correctly. Click the link to download the sample CSV import file. For best results, open the file in a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. After you update the file with your subscriber information and save it, learn how to import it into Mailchimp.
The data contained in the sample import file is not actual contact data and has been created for informational purposes only. Replace the sample information before you import. Once signed in you will see a dashboard, one like the one below.
Within the dashboard you will see a left-hand sidebar that includes features such as blog, if you have one, marketing tools, and settings. Check out this example below. By clicking, features such as Inbox, Form Submissions, Invoices and some others can be found here. Once Contact List is selected, you will find the list of contacts on your site that have already been added. If no contacts have been added you should just see your own account within the contact list.
A pop-up box should appear and this is where you can add a new contact. Once a contact is added, you can click on the contact within the list and a right side-bar will appear. Within this side-bar you can:. Beside the Add Contact button, shown in the screenshot above, there is a More Actions drop-down. This drop-down includes features such as:.
Just click on the Gmail option. The button will forward you to your Google accounts. Choose the right account for you, your business or your personal account.
A popup will appear with the number of Gmail contacts you have, and how many you wish to add to your WIX account. There is also an option to tick a box to set the contacts import as subscribers. This means all of these contacts would then receive any marketing communications from your site. However, remember they have to give their consent for this. Proceed with caution as this imports all your Gmail contacts. If you wish to import a group of contacts, you will need to export your contacts as a CSV file and then import this file to your WIX site.
When you receive the confirmation email, click the button to confirm your subscription. Test the download link in the thank-you page. Once you click the email link, the thank you-page appears in your browser. Click the download link in the thank-you page to make sure your freebie downloads OK. Test the download link in the welcome email.
Shortly after you confirm your subscription, MailChimp sends you the welcome email. To test the welcome email, click the link in the email. Your freebie should appear in your browser or download to your computer.
If all works well, then congratulations! Give yourself a pat on the back! Getting your opt-in freebie up and running can seem daunting. You have to work out where and how to upload it, as well as how to make it available for your new subscribers to download.
So grab a coffee. Upload it to MailChimp. Link it up. Tell everyone about your shiny new freebie on your website and social media. Two things I noticed — each time I changed the text on a form eg. I even revised the process by adding the pdf freebie to a different form stage but I didnt get it either. It has taken me over two hours already to get this far. Is there a simple solution? Question: what if I use the Mail Chimp Subscriber pop up form?
Do I have to upload the freebie again or will it work automatically once they confirm their address and receive the final welcome email? Is that correct? What else should I do? MailChimp should still give subscribers the thank-you page and welcome email containing the download links. I would test it first of course, just to make sure. Thanks so much for the quick reply. I saved and exited, I have the code but where exactly do I paste it in?
Which page do you mean with WordPress? Do you want it on every page of your site in the footer or sidebar? Drag in a Text widget from the left-hand Available Widgets column into that box. Go with an embedded form, or a pop-up form that only opens when you click a button such as we use on this site. Thank you so much! Thank you for your lovely feedback Deb! Good luck with launching your site. I got invited to participate in a summit and had never set-up a freebie specific to an event.
Your article helped a lot. Thank you! Thanks for your comment Jaiden. Sure, you can have a separate list for the freebie.
In fact this is one of the ways you can offer multiple freebies to your readers — you create a separate list for each freebie, then you can merge subscribers into your main list if you like! Thank you thank you! I redesigned my website and wanted to update my freebie, but I had no idea where to start. On the Build it tab, click inside the dashed lines to open the editor.
Type some text, like "Download your free song," and highlight it. Then, click the Link icon. In the Insert or Edit Link modal, choose File from the drop-down menu.
Choose or upload your file , and click Insert. Add your file to a welcome automation A welcome message automation is a great way to greet new subscribers and help them get to know you. To use a welcome message automation to send a file to new subscribers, follow these steps.
